W: What’s for breakfast?
M: I guess I could make some pancakes.
W: No. The last time you made pancakes, they were as hard as rocks.
(Text 2)
W: Hi. My name’s Prudence. Nice to meet you.
M: Nice to meet you, too. My name is Francisco. But all my friends back in Peru call me Pancho.
(Text 3)
M: What can we do for you today?
W: I’m having a problem with my car, and it doesnt seem to run right.
(Text 4)
W: Do you go to school by yourself, or on a school bus?
M: No, I have a group that walk with me.
(Text 5)
W: What do you need a new iPad for?
M: Well, you know, my birthday is coming up.
W: Your birthday wouldn’t arrive until June. That’s six months away.
(Text 6)
W: What’s your usual day like?
M: Well, I usually get up around 5:00 a.m. and take exercise until 6:00 a.m. Then I prepare breakfast for my family.  I have to leave home at twenty to seven so I can catch the bus at 700 o’clock.⑥  My bus stops right in front of my office.
W: That’s nice. And what time do you get off work?
M: Uh, around 5:00 o’clock.  We eat dinner around 6:30.  My wife and I play with the kids until 800 o’clock.  My wife then often reads while I work on my program.⑦ It’s important to set aside time for the family and yourself.
W: Well, it sounds like you’re a busy man.
(Text 7)
M: Hi, young lady. How may I help you?
W: Well, Im looking for a Fathers Day gift. How much is that black wallet?⑧
M: Oh. It’s only $45.
W: That’s too expensive for me. Besides, I don’t think my father will like the design on the outside, and it doesn’t have a place to put pictures.
M: How about this tie?
W: That’s really pretty, but the price is $43, and I know I don’t have that much money.
M: Well, just say the tie went on sale. How about $35?⑨
W: Oh, thanks. I’ll take it.
(Text 8)
W: How do you stay in shape?
M: On weekdays, I always go jogging for about a half hour before work.⑩ Then I usually lift weights for about an hour after work.
W: How do you spend your life on Saturdays?
M: Well, I often go hiking on Saturdays with my dog. I like hiking because it helps me reduce stress and anxiety that build up during the week.⑪
W: What about Sundays?
M: Well, as for Sundays, I sometimes just relax at home by watching a movie or inviting some friends over, but I usually go out to take my dog for a walk.
(Text 9)
W: Dr. Carter’s Office.
M: Hello, I’d like to make an appointment to see Dr. Carter, please.
W: May I ask who referred you to our office?
M: I drove past your office yesterday and saw your phone number on the office door.⑬⑭
W: Okay. How about the day after tomorrow on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 o’clock?
M: I usually pick up my kids from school around that time. Do you happen to have an opening in the morning?
W: Okay. How about Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. or Thursday at 8:15 a.m.?
M: Uh, do you have anything earlier, like 7:30?
W: No. I’m sorry.
M: Well, in that case, Thursday would be fine.
W: Okay. And what’s the purpose of your visit?
M: Well, to tell the truth, I fell from a ladder two days ago while painting my house, and I injured my ankle.⑯ I suffered a few scratches on my hands and knees, but I’m most concerned that the swelling in my ankle hasn’t gone down yet.
(Text 10)
Good morning, everyone.  I want to talk about what I will do to celebrate the New Year.  For most people, this will probably sound a little boring, but I prefer to live a simple yet happy life.
Many years ago when I was much younger, I used to enjoy staying up late with my friends on New Year’s Eve. We would have a party, play games, and eat lots of food.⑰  I don’t remember exactly, but I’m sure we didn’t eat a tasty salad with plenty of vegetables in it. Rather, we probably just ate unhealthy food like pizza, burgers, and drank lots of soda.
Now that I am older, things have changed. When our kids were little, we sometimes stayed up late with them to celebrate the New Year, but those times have changed.  I find that every day is a new day, and we dont have to wait until the New Year to change our lives.  Each day gives us a new opportunity to be better.
As a result, we don’t do anything special on New Year’s Eve. We generally stay home that evening. We sometimes watch a movie or visit our family, but I usually go to bed before midnight.  I’m usually not a nightbird, and I would rather get into bed around 1000 p.m. and watch a movie and fall asleep before it’s over.⑳
