3、New science says land conservation must double by 2030 to prevent dangerous warming and destruction of ecosystems.
Countries should double their protected zones to 30 percent of the Earth's land area, and add 20 percent more as climate stabilization areas, for a total of 50 percent of all land kept in a natural state, scientists conclude. “The benefits are great,” says Eric Dinerstein, lead author of Science Advances. Only when 50 percent of the Earth’s areas are protected, along with basic cuts in fossil-fuel use and major increases in renewable energy, will we have a good chance of meeting the Paris climate target of less than 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming. And if warming goes beyond that, we lose some of those natural systems and the services they provide humanity, including their ability to absorb carbon.    Climate stabilization areas are lands that are currently undamaged but largely outside of the traditional protected area system. Governments only need to prevent activities that affect their natural function. Since 37 percent of all remaining natural lands are original lands, it is vital they are supported in the Global Deal for Nature, the study said.    Although the Global Deal for Nature is focused on land, the study authors support the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and its member organization call for 30 percent protection of the oceans by 2030. The world’s coral reefs(珊瑚礁)are already suffering with just 1 Tl of warming, the team notes. Scientists fear few will survive should temperatures go beyond 2Tl. Yet corals aren’t just colorful to look at,they are the nurseries for much of the ocean's fish and other marine life on which one or more billion people depend.    In 2017, the foundation campaigned One Earth Initiative to help create a vision of the future based on 100 percent renewable energy, protection and restoration of 50 percent of the world’s lands and oceans, and a transition to new agriculture. The foundation is working on showing how our happiness is connected to nature, Justin Winters, executive director of the foundation, said. “We hope to inspire people to take action.”1. What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 2 refer to?A. The Paris climate target. B. The ability to absorb carbon.C. 50 percent of the protected land. D. 20 percent of the stabilization areas.2. What does the fourth paragraph mainly tell us? ' A. Protection of the oceans matters. B. Corals are worthless to appreciate.C. Scientists pay more attention to the sea. D. The world’s coral reefs are becoming warmer.3. What can we do to prevent poor environment according to the text?A. To keep all land in a natural state. B. To protect 50 percent of the corals.C. To develop the world’s lands and oceans. D. To pay attention to the effect of warming.4. What will probably be talked about following the last paragraph?A. The importance of protecting land. B. Activities people can do.C. The price government must pay. D. Reasons for climate change.
答案:1.A   2.A  3.D  4.B

【解题思路】根据第二段中的“…will we have a good chance of meeting the Paris climate target of less than 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming. ” 以及画线词 that 所在句 “And if warming goes beyond that,we lose some of those natural systems.”可知,that 指代 the Paris climate target。 【解题思路】根据第一段 “ New science says land conservation must double by 2030 to prevent dangerous warming and destruction of ecosystems. ”可知,气候变暖,生态环境遭到破坏,人们应加大对陆地的保护力度。并结合第四段中的“ The world’s coral reefs(珊瑚礁)are already suffering with just 1°C of warming, the team notes. Scientists fear few will survive should temperatures go beyond 2°C... they are the nurseries for much of the ocean's fish and other marine life on which one or more billion people depend. ”可知,海洋温度的上升影响了珊瑚礁 的生存,从而对生物乃至人类的生存都造成威胁。因此我们 要对气候变暖的影响高度重视。故D项正确。4. B【命题意图】考查推理判断。【解题思路】根据最后一段以及Justion Winters说的话“ We hope to inspire people to take action. ”可知,此人认为,保护自然,抵制温室效应,不仅相关组织机构要采取措施,全民都要 行动起来。由此判断,文章的后续部分要写“大家为此能做 什么”。故B项正确。
