To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, authorities at every level in China have been using their wits to take fast action. 
In heavily-affected (受到严重影响的) areas, such as Hubei province, the government decided to lock down cities. After Wuhan’s lockdown on Jan 23, for example, 13 other cities in Hubei also took lockdown measures. The practice proved effective (有效的) in stamping out the virus’ spread at its root, noted China Daily.
Communities across China have also taken quick action. Many residential areas have adopted closed-off management, where one family can only let one person come out every day to buy daily supplies. There are also community workers who check people’s temperatures, keep records of local people’s travel history, keep non-residents (非住户) out of the community, and make sure that returnees (返回者) from high-risk areas quarantine (隔离) themselves. They have built the first line of defense (防御) against the virus across China.
According to Xinhua, there are millions of community workers in 650,000 urban and rural communities across the country. Due to limited (有限的) manpower, many people from all walks of life have volunteered to do the job. 
“In the face of an unexpected outbreak, it’s amazing to see that China could mobilize (动员) people on such a large scale (规模),” Li Baoping from the Ningxia Academy of Social Sciences told Xinhua. “Great governance capacity (治理能力) at all levels gives us confidence in winning the battle.”
