Once upon a time, shopkeeper Tom Algie faced a difficulty over Halloween - how to give himself time off but without disappointing his customers. He was thinking about it all the days and at last he thought out an idea to help himself out: leaving the store open with an honesty box and a note.
The note told customers to serve themselves and leave their payment in the box he had placed. And he added something at the bottom: “Yes, I have given myself, the only person in the store, some time off.May you have a great time!”
Although he was worried at the beginning, he still did that as he planned. He had promised to play with his children, his son Joe, 3, and daughter Beth, 6 this night and they planned to spend a quality time outside.
His wife asked him why he came back home.He said, “I wanted to spend some time with you and our children, so I just left the store open.Settle is a lovely small town and there was never any trouble here.I put my faith in my customers and I think I won't be disappointed.”
So, anyway, to his happiness, his plan worked well. When Mr Algie passed by his store in the early morning the next day, he found the box in his store had taken £187.66.And after he checked the things and the money, he found that there was nothing left or less paid.
