"Hurray!"cried Mary. "Today is the day we're going to Waterland!? "It was a hot July day, and Mary's mom was taking her to cool off on the water slides(水滑道)in Waterland. And Mary's new friend, Jack, was going with them, too.
Just then, Mary's mom, Mrs. Miller, came out of her bedroom. She did not look very happy. “What's the matter with you, Mom? Are you afraid to get wet? " Mary teased(挑逗). T bet you'll melt(融化), just like the Wicked Witch(女巫)of the West!"
Mrs. Miller didn't laugh at the joke. Instead, she told the kids that she wasn't feeling well. She was too tired to drive them to the water park.
Mary and Jack were disappointed. t4My mom has chronic fatigue syndrome, a kind of disease which is easy to get tired, " Mary explained to Jack. "Her illness always makes her really tired. She's still a great mom。"
“Thank you, dear, " said Mrs. Miller, "I'm too tired to drive, but I have a good idea. You can make your own Waterland in the backyard and I'll rest in the lawn chair. "
Mary and Jack set up three different sprinklers(洒水器). They dragged(拉)the play slide over to the swimming pool and aimed the sprinkler on the slide. Mary and Jack got wet all over. Mrs. Miller sat in a lawn chair and rested. The kids played happily all day.
" Thank you for being so understanding, dear. " Mary's mom said. "Now I feel better, but Tm really hot! There's only one cure for that. , , Then she stood under the sprinkler with all her clothes on. Soon she was drenched from head to toe.
Mary laughed and said, “Mom, now you have chronic wet syndrome. " After hearing this, Mrs. Miller gave her daughter a big, wet hug in return. It turned out to be a wonderful day after all, in the backyard Waterland.
